How do we teach our students?

At Spokane Dance Company our first priority is to acertain each student's goals,   We have found that every student, that enters our studio, has different goals, likes, dislikes, time commitments, learning abilites, etc..  In plain words, Each student is SPECIAL.  Our system of teaching is designed to find these differences in each student and help each student reach THEIR GOALS instead of forcing the student to fit into the studio's goals.

Our teaching is on a scholastic basis, and degrees of dancing achieved are varied. Instruction progresses through: Student Introductory & Preliminary Programs, to Associate or Full Programs in Bronze, Silver and Gold levels of dance.  This system is called the Medalist System and is used worldwide. Courses are designed for people desiring instruction in either Social, Techical or Competition Styles. Additionally, we utilize a comparative style of teaching called the "Inter-relational Step Method," which enables students to learn the skills needed for dancing (not just steps) in the most efficient way possible. Our goal is to help you get out on the floor dancing as soon as possible.

Our Instructors

Our instructors are carefully selected and trained to bring you the finest in dancing instruction. Working together they help you reach any dancing goal, through individualized teaching, utilizing the latest techniques and styles. Our instructors are all trained by us in advanced methods of teaching that you will not find in most studios.  They understand  the difficulties a student may have in learning  and have many ways to help the student through the difficult times and on to great dancing.

Private Lessons

During your one-on-one private lessons, you will receive personalized instruction that will help you achieve your goals in dancing. Your instructor will spend the time necessary on technique, styling, and general dance improvement. An up-to-date record of everything you have learned will also be kept as part of your instruction.

Group Classes

Group Classes are an important part of your instruction.  In these classes the focus is on learning the step patterns. Plus, group classes give you the opportunity to dance with a variety of partners, develop good dance habits, and meet other students in the studio.

Practice Sessions

We hold scheduled dance practice sessions for all our students. These practice sessions are held every weekend. You will have fun dancing with the instructors and students in a relaxed and comfortable, nightclub environment. This gives you the opportunity to practice and try out all the new dance skills that you've learned in your Private and Group Lessons.
